Psychiatric evaluations are assessments conducted by mental health professionals to identify any mental health or behavioral issues that may be impacting a patient’s well-being, development, and functioning.
The following steps are generally involved in the process of a psychiatric evaluation at PM Kidz Plus.
The evaluation process usually begins with a referral from a pediatrician, therapist, or another professional. Our psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners may then conduct an intake interview with the child's caregiver to gather information about the child's symptoms, medical history, developmental history, and any other relevant information.
The mental health provider will then conduct a clinical interview with the child and their caregiver. The interview may cover topics such as the child's emotions, behavior, relationships, and functioning in different settings such as home, school, and community. The mental health provider may also ask the caregiver and/or child to complete standardized questionnaires or assessments.
The provider may also observe the child's behavior in different settings, such as the office, home or school, to gain a better understanding of the child's behavior and interactions with others.
Depending on the needs of the child, the mental health provider may also conduct a formal assessment of the child's cognitive, academic, and social-emotional functioning. This may involve standardized assessments or other tests.
Based on the information gathered during the evaluation, the mental health provider may provide a diagnosis, if appropriate, and develop a treatment plan. The treatment plan may involve therapy, medication, or other interventions aimed at addressing the child's mental health needs and improving their functioning.
During a psychiatric evaluation at PM Kidz Plus, the mental health provider will conduct interviews with the child and their caregivers, observe the child's behavior, and administer standardized tests and questionnaires. The goal of the evaluation is to determine whether the child is experiencing any symptoms of a mental health disorder, such as depression, anxiety, or ADHD, and to develop a treatment plan that addresses the child's needs. It is important to note that these evaluations are not intended to diagnose or label a child, but rather to provide guidance and support for the child and their family.
Our therapists will determine if tele-health therapy is an appropriate option for your individual needs and circumstances.
